EXPLORING Hand-Woven Fabrics through sustainable practice at Fabric Etcetera Ng

Olamide Adams’ interest for fashion emanated from her childhood where she worked closely with her mother who was a fabric seller at a local market in Lagos state. This early exposure sparked an idea: to make locally woven fabrics more appealing and captivating by incorporating and crafting modern and timeless designs with the indigenous fabrics.

At Fabric Etcetera NG, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of sustainability and ethical practices in the fashion industry. Our dedication to sustainability is reflected in every aspect of our operations, from sourcing materials to crafting our distinctive designs.

Here are the steps we take in embodying  sustainability:

  1. Ethical Sourcing and Production

We prioritize ethical sourcing by working closely with local artisans and suppliers. Our fabrics, including the vibrant Aso Oke and high-quality cotton prints, are sourced from local markets in Lagos, Nigeria. By supporting local craftsmanship, we ensure that our materials are obtained responsibly and that we contribute to the economic growth of the communities we work with.

  1. Handcrafted Artistry

Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, celebrating traditional artisanal techniques. All our Aso Oke fabrics are specially woven and customized by our artisans according to our client’s briefs .This approach reduces waste and minimizes our carbon footprint, as we produce in small batches to avoid overproduction.

  1. Empowerment and Inclusivity

Our brand is dedicated to empowering women and marginalized communities. We provide training and employment opportunities to local artisans, ensuring that they are fairly compensated for their skills and labor.

  1. Innovative and Eco-Friendly Designs

Fabric Etcetera ‘s innovative designs incorporate eco-friendly sustainable materials. With the use of quality Aso Oke fabrics that stand the test of time, our pieces encourage longevity and discourage fast fashion.

  1. Community and Culture

Fabric Etcetera  is more than a fashion label; it is a celebration of African culture and heritage. Our collections tell stories of joy, freedom, and self-expression, allowing our customers to connect with and celebrate their roots.

  1. Waste Reduction

We are committed to minimizing waste through thoughtful design and production processes. Any fabric scraps are recycled  into making our Ready-to-wear designs, promoting a zero-waste philosophy.

  1. Global Responsibility

While deeply rooted in African culture, Fabric Etcetera also recognizes its global responsibility. We aim to inspire a global audience to appreciate and support sustainable and ethical fashion.

At Fabric Etcetera NG, we believe that fashion has the power to drive positive change. By celebrating African prints and adhering to sustainable practices, we strive to build a better future for our planet and its people. Join us in our journey toward joy, inclusivity, and sustainability.
